WORSHIP THIS WEEK: This Sunday: May 28, we celebrate Pentecost, the day on which the Holy Spirit turned a bunch of tentative, scared disciples into powerful preachers and teachers. How might the Holy Spirit be transforming us today? Wear some red, and join us for worship at 10:00 on Sunday, either at 300 Shunpike Road or in our digital sanctuary here: https://www.youtube.com/live/MCArzukvPgI?feature=share
Our Mission
We are a place of meaningful relationships
with God, our neighbor, and one another.
Just as Christ extended his hands to us, we:
OPEN our hands to receive God’s blessings
UPLIFT our hands to praise our God
OUTSTRETCH our hands
in care for our neighbors and all of creation.
Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, is located at 300 Shunpike Road in Chatham, NJ. Each and every week, we gather to worship our Lord, celebrating God’s good gifts.
Sunday worship services begin at 10:00 AM, with children attending Sunday School following the children’s message. All Christians are welcome to receive communion, which is part of every Sunday worship service.
We worship our God liturgically — that is, we use a combination of hymns, prayers, and Scripture readings that reflect the season of the Church year (Christmas, Easter, Pentecost, etc.). The liturgy is the “work of the people.” Pastors, choirs, and others may lead the worship, but God’s praise is sung by the whole congregation, and we pray as one body in Christ.
Worship is focused on:
- Gathering — The Holy Spirit calls us together as the people of God.
- Word — We proclaim the Word in scripture, sermon, and song.
- Meal — In Christ’s body and blood given to us, God forgives us and nourishes us for mission.
- Sending — God blesses us and sends us into the world for mission and ministry.
Pastor: Rev. Dr. Christa Compton
